A demon Nation tribute to seminal New Zealand hard core band Toxic Avengers!Full Moon Over Toxic Town - A Tribute to Toxic Avengers
Toxic's played their first official show New Years Eve 1987.
Colin Long (guitar/vocals) came from Sticky Filth while Brett Taylor (vocals),Richard Davies (lead guitar) & Mark Hill (drums) had come from Dioxin O.D. Craig Mckenzie (bass) had been in the short lived Rude Boys Out of Jail & John Paul & the Horny Nuns with members of Casualty. They were discribed by some one as "Post Apocalyptic Hardcore". T.A. toured the country often playing with Sticky Filth,Casualty & Wellingtons finest - Flesh D - Vice & the Manson family among others.
Brian Wafer signed the band to his Ima Hitt label & they went to Writhe studio Wellington & recorded the Full Moon Over Mushroom Town album.(1989)
Jan 19 1990 saw Colin Long die in the city street during a fight with local rednecks.The band almost ended.
Nigel Brand from Post - Mortem Depression would fill in for Long when the band returned. Prison & forced terms in rehab took a toll & the band splintered. First into Hellbent & then Nefarious & finally Evilis,Richards band in Auckland.
In March 1992 a final four song ep was recorded. "Anyone For Designer Violence". All old songs,done in one take live. Recorded & mixed for under $200!
The band would play ocassionally,usually at the annual Mushroom ball & last played in 2018 with Richard Davies son Eli Globe on lead guitar.
Over the years we kept the fire alive with release of both recordings on tape,cd & record. Even making it into the NZ Top 20!
That said Toxic's had many song's they didnt record. Classic stuff like Why Pretend?,Teenage Sex Fiend Suicide Junkie,Moloko Plus,Genocide for Jesus,USA Today,Jimmy Likes Drugs & TA vs God too name a few & newer songs like Hellbent,Rock n Roll & the final two - Snapped Inside & Anthem,which apeared on the live Hellbent 10 inch with Craig Radford on vocals. Some of these songs were too good to be forgotten. These cover versions are testament to that. Even Sticky filth would ocassionally cover TA thrasher Horror Story at shows.
Now you can hear some fine cover's of T.A. tune's,showing how seminal this band has been to New Plymouth Hard Core with an influence & lineage that spans decades!
